    Short description for MEM-TESTER

    --------------------------------

This program informs you about the

the quantity of extra RAM in your

 Atari 8-bit computer. The XE-type

 memory expansion is supported since

MEM TESTER shows values of PORTB

 ($D301) register. These values give

access to the banks of extra memory.

The PORTB bits used in switching banks

are also shown (as inversed numbers).

I wrote this program by the EXPLICIT

REQUEST of Dracon. He said that a

program like this would be useful.

     So, it's done.

                                 JAKU-B

                                 ------

 P.S.

    Here's Dracon himself !

I wanna add something to this DOC...

Firstly, some words about MEM TESTER:

Pressing <ESC> lets you quit from this

program to DOS. The contents of RAM-

Disk will be intact after testing, so

don't worry, be happy !!! As far as I

know, JAKU-B has written the tester

for extra memory up to 512 kB (RAMDisk

512 kB, so total RAM in such expanded

computer is 576 kB). So, if you have

bigger size of extra RAM it may happen

not all banks' value will be shown...

Try to guess why... :) But I think

512 kB of RAMDISK is quite enough size

Are there many programs (or users) for

mem bigger than, let's say, 320 kB ??!

Another note: please keep in mind I

wanted this program just to give some

 informations about RAMDisks. Therefore

you can also use it in order to e.g.

 configuring your RAMDisk for MyDOS

(by "O" function). Please, don't write

your own programs for only one RAM-

Disk type (by switching banks suitable

only in your RAMDISK...). Only LAAAAME

coders do in this way and soon it

turns out their programs don't work on

 machines having another RAMDisk type.

   Do write UNIVERSAL RAMDisk check

routines to adjust your program to all

(e.g. TOMS type & Compy Shop) expan-

dings !!! This is the way like Konop

 ("The Asskicker") and JAKU-B ("Disk-

COPY") do ! Follow them !!!
